What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis has been around since 1875 when Dr. Charles Michel, Ophthalmologist, first used it to successfully remove ingrown eyelashes from a patient. With a track record of over 135 years, Electrolysis is the longest established method of permanent hair removal and has the most effective results!

Electrolysis hair removal is the only permanent method of hair removal and it is approved by the FDA. The process of Electrolysis uses an electric current to destroy the tissue, the dermal papilla, ridding the patient of the unwanted hair. Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal treatment, as opposed to reducing hair procedures such as Laser & IPL hair removal.

The success of electrolysis is largely due to the skill and knowledge of the electrologist. As a regulated field of expertise in the State of Massachusetts, you can rest assured we have the training and skills to help rid you of your unwanted hair.

How does it work?

A fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle and a low-intensity current is applied, eliminating the germinative cells which are responsible for hair growth. This is done in a series of treatments. Electrolysis can be done safely on all parts of the body.

Do electrologists follow appropriate infection control procedures?

The American Electrology Association has written Standards for Infection Control following the most recent recommendations from the Center for Disease (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).

Cataphoresis – Post Treatment

Post-epilatory treatment, cataphoresis, is provided at no extra cost to clients who have to return to work or attend a social event immediately following electrolysis treatment.

Cataphoresis is typically performed on the face following electrolysis to allow one to step out of the treatment room looking just like they did before the treatment, minus the redness and unwanted hair on treated area/s, of course.

Cataphoresis is very effective in immediately reducing the skin’s redness and restores skin’s pH balance in order to prevent any infection.

Very few electrologists know how to perform cataphoresis and those that do, charge clients for this treatment.  Grafton Electrolysis & Skin Center offers this treatment for free as we want only the best for our clients.
